The Senate of Kenya’s Trade Committee, led by Senator Issa Boy Juma, has inspected the ongoing construction of the Shimoni Fish Landing Site in Kwale County.
The facility is expected to process 50,000 metric tonnes of fish annually, significantly contributing to Kenya’s blue economy.
“The committee also inspected the Mwananyamala Industrial Park, a KSh 750 million investment aimed at driving industrial growth and job creation in Kwale,” read part of the Senate’s statement on social media.
The Shimoni Fish Port, a flagship project by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), is nearing completion. According to KPA, the port is expected to be operational by June 2025.
Once operational, the port will enhance fish production, processing, and value addition, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth along the South Coast.
KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto stated that the new port will feature a multi-purpose berth, a modern jetty, a warehouse, a fish market, cold storage facilities, reefer stations, and ice-making plants.
