Mombasa Press Club marks first anniversary with Grand Iftar celebration

The Mombasa Press Club commemorated its first anniversary with a grand Iftar celebration, bringing together journalists, government officials, and representatives from non-governmental organizations.

The event, held at the Noble Ballroom, served as a platform to reflect on the club’s achievements over the past year and strengthen ties with key stakeholders.

The event received substantial backing from various organizations, underlining their commitment to supporting journalism and community initiatives. Bomu Hospital, Bulk Stream Company, and Amsons Group Ltd were among the key sponsors.

Bomu Hospital, represented by Operations Manager Suleiman Adams, lauded the press club for its role in promoting responsible journalism. “It’s truly an honor to witness the impact you have made in informing and empowering the public. We commend your dedication to ethical reporting,” he stated.

Bulk Stream Company’s Business Development Executive, Rahim Jajan, reaffirmed their support for the media, emphasizing the sector’s crucial role in shaping society. “We acknowledge the media’s impact and will continue to collaborate on initiatives that uplift communities,” he said.

In a notable act of philanthropy, Bulk Stream Limited donated 400 food bags, which will be distributed to children’s homes in the county under the management of Bomu Hospital.

Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Noor Hassan, the event’s chief guest, expressed appreciation for the collaboration between the media and government.

“In my over two decades of service, this is the first time I have been invited to an event by journalists. It signifies the importance of fostering relationships between the media and government to drive community progress,” he remarked.

Other notable attendees included representatives from the Media Council of Kenya, Haki Yetu, Sisters for Justice, Football Kenya Federation (FKF), and Human Rights Agenda (HURIA).

MCK regional representative Momo Elkindy praised the press club’s commitment to upholding journalism standards, urging members to continue their dedication to truth and ethical reporting.

The event, themed “Illuminating Voices, Strengthening Ties,” underscored the importance of media-government collaboration. It highlighted the role of journalists in shaping public discourse and the need for continued support from stakeholders to enhance press freedom and societal development.
