President Ruto PS reshuffle sparks mixed reactions

BY CECELIA ACHIENG’

President William Ruto has made significant changes to his administration through a reshuffle of Principal Secretaries, reassigning six positions and appointing 14 new officials.

The reshuffle, announced on Thursday, March 20, saw new figures introduced into the administration, including individuals aligned with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The changes aim to enhance government efficiency and inclusivity in line with constitutional requirements.

The reshuffle has sparked mixed reactions across the political divide, particularly in Mombasa County. Some residents welcomed the appointments, while others questioned the president’s motives.

Paul Wanje expressed concerns that the reshuffle may be linked to the president’s political ambitions.

Franklin Talala, another Mombasa resident, suggested that the changes indicate the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently signed between President Ruto and Raila Odinga.

Meanwhile, Raphael Odhieny Wakaya from Nyali Sub-County commended the move but noted that merit and intellectual capacity should be key considerations in government appointments.

“The reshuffle is good, but it must be backed by effective policies to ensure the appointed officials serve the public well,” added Peter Olero.

The newly appointed Principal Secretaries will be expected to take up their roles following parliamentary approval, with their performance closely monitored in the coming months.

Among the notable appointments, Jane Kare Imbuya was named Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Service & Human Capital Development, while Regina Akoth Ombam was assigned to the State Department for Trade.

Cyrel Wagunda Odede was appointed to the State Department for Public Investment & Assets Management, while Fikiri Katoi Kahindi, from Ganze in the Coast region, was appointed to the State Department for Youth Affairs.
