Ruruma ward residents call for gov’t action on water scarcity

Residents of Ruruma Ward in Rabai Sub-County, Kilifi County, have urged the national government to address the persistent water shortage in the area.

Led by Khalid Saha, the locals lamented the severe water crisis, calling for immediate intervention, including the drilling of more boreholes.

“It is unfortunate that our mothers are forced to travel long distances in search of water,” said Saha.

Residents expressed frustration over the dried-up water infrastructure, which has left the community struggling for access to clean water.

“Most taps here have run dry. The government must take action,” Saha added.

Betty Tindi, another resident, emphasized the hardship women face due to the lack of water.

“With all taps destroyed by the scorching sun, women are left with no choice but to walk long distances for water,” she noted.

However, Tindi expressed gratitude to a local well-wisher, Mombasa Cement, for stepping in to alleviate the crisis.

“We can now breathe a sigh of relief after Mombasa Cement responded to our plea,” she said.

Residents now urge the government to implement long-term solutions to ensure sustainable access to clean water in Ruruma Ward.
