Beach Management Unit (BMU) leaders in Diani, Kwale County, have urged hotel owners to take an active role in conserving the oceanic environment.

According to the BMUs, this effort is crucial in preventing marine and ocean ecosystem pollution.

Led by Mwanaisha Fadhili from Mwakamba BMU, local leaders emphasized the need for hoteliers in the region to support regular ocean clean-up activities.

“We call on all hotel owners to take responsibility for conserving the environment. This is vital for our area,” Mwanaisha stated.

Meanwhile, Betty Ngosi from Diani Youth Beach highlighted that the initiative aims to tackle the issue of plastic pollution in the region.

“We want to eliminate plastic waste in this area,” she said.

The two activists spoke during a clean-up exercise from Safari Beach Hotel to Lagoon in Diani, Kwale County.

We World Programs Officer John Elly also noted that his organization has partnered with various local groups to raise awareness about the impact of plastic waste in the ocean.

“We are conducting a series of sensitization campaigns with local groups. Our partnerships are essential in this effort,” Elly said.
