Farmers in all 20 wards in Kwale County will benefit from the distribution of 45 tonnes of seeds from the county government.

Speaking at the Kwale headquarters during the launch of the distribution exercise, Governor Fatuma Achani urged farmers to use the seeds during this planting season.

She said the seeds have been approved and are safe for use.

Farmers are set to receive maize, green grams, rice, and peas seeds.

Achani said in efforts to improve food security in the area, farmers will receive seeds according to how well they do in different areas.

“The farmers in Pongwe, Kikoneni, Ramisi, and Vanga will receive rice seeds,” said Achani.

The governor cautioned Ward Administrators against delays in distributing the seeds.

County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries Roman Shera said the county government has put in place measures to improve farming in the area.

Shera said they are sending agricultural officers to the wards to train farmers on better and modern farming practices.

Mercy Chalika a farmer from Tsimba Golini ward in Matuga Constituency said the distribution will reduce their cost of going to shop for the seeds.

“Once we plant these seeds and get to harvest time, this will help us deal with hunger in the area,” said Mercy.
