IEBC requires Ksh61.7 billion for 2027 General Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced it will need sh.61.7 billion to conduct the next general elections.

According to Deputy CEO Obadiah Keitany, the commission has allocated sh.7 billion for boundary delimitation but is awaiting a court advisory before proceeding.

Additionally, the IEBC noted that 14 pending by-elections are expected to cost approximately sh.480 million.

“The commission projects an additional 5.7 million new voters, bringing the total to 28 million in the 2027 election,” Keitany stated.

IEBC Finance Director Osman Ibrahim highlighted the need to replace a number of Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits.

“There will be a total replacement of 45,352 KIEMS kits, except for the 14,000 purchased in 2022. In total, 59,352 kits are required,” Ibrahim said.
