The Mombasa County government is set to undertake planned fumigation and fogging in several parts of the county to keep the city clean and disease-free.
According to Mombasa Governor AbdulLswamad Sheriff Nassir, the exercise is set to kick off this weekend in the Central Business District (CBD) Area.
Speaking to Baraka Fm, Mombasa County Principal Public Health Officer Ahmed Omar Kabocho said due to the rise of dengue fever and chikungunya cases during the hot season, the Department of Health has been undertaking preventative measures to curb the cases.
“We have been conducting this exercise but we intend to do it quarterly to reduce vectors that cause the rise of the said diseases,” said Kabocho.
According to Kabocho, public health officers have been going around the community doing health education while others do routine work on environmental sanitation.
“Public health officers have been disinfecting mosquito breeding sites in the community,” he added.
The exercise will be conducted in the community, public, and residential areas and business premises.
The county government has assured the general public that the pest chemicals used are safe.
Members of the public have been urged to cooperate with the Public Health officers to ensure the success of the exercise.
The exercise is scheduled for Friday and Saturday between 5 and 9 pm.
Fumigation in other areas of the county is expected to follow with dates to be announced soon.
