The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has commenced investigations into the violent abduction of veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho and the shooting of Mediamax journalist Catherine Wanjeri Kariuki.
Veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho was arrested in Karen on Wednesday morning after allegedly being trailed from his home.
“Mr Gaitho’s case has been taken up by IPOA, and the Authority had already sent officers to Karen Police station suo moto after videos of Mr Gaitho’s arrest were circulated on social media,” said IPOA.
“Additionally, IPOA’s team in Nakuru has already initiated investigations, suo moto, following the shooting of a Mediamax journalist in Nakuru,” added the Authority.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Union of Journalists and the Kenya Editors Guild have condemned both cases and called for speedy action against the involved cops.
