2,000 Mvita residents benefit from sh12 million NHIF cover

At least 2,000 Mvita residents and their families will be able to access healthcare services following the issuance of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) by Mvita Member of Parliament Mohamed Soud Machele.

Speaking at the RG Ngala Grounds during the issuance of the NHIF cards, the Mvita legislature said through NG-CDF, payments had already been made for the first quarter.

“In our quest to enhance accessibility to quality healthcare to residents of Mvita Constituency, 2000 residents have received National Hospital Insurance Funds (NHIF) subscriptions that will provide medical cover for them and their families,” said Mvita MP Mohamed Soud Machele.

According to the lawmaker, registration had been done earlier but there were challenges in the transition from NHIF to the Social Health Insurance Fund which was set to start at the beginning of March this year.

“We set aside nine million shillings in the last financial year and three million shillings in this financial, so that is a total of sh.12 million to ensure Mvita residents can access healthcare. Once the Social Health Insurance Fund comes into effect then we will increase the number of beneficiaries from 2,000 depending on the new charges,” said Machele.

“We will continue working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure a healthier and more productive Mvita,” he added.

Beneficiaries will now be needed to ensure they submit the relevant copies of documents and have their biometrics taken by NHIF staff in all wards. The Mvita legislature says this will help with issues of accountability during audits.

Representing NHIF at the event, George Wanjohi confirmed that the first quarter funds had already been received and that beneficiaries were already accessing healthcare services.
